Frequently Asked Questions

How do Group Classes Work at Tune Up and Jam ATX?

Most of our classes are group classes, because after years of teaching music- we've seen over and over that kids and adults alike are motivated by the social aspects, the friendly competition, and the general camaraderie of learning in a group. Our "Tune Up" classes are limited to groups of 4 ( but we don't need 4 people to make the class, so sometimes the class is smaller! We don't cancel classes for low attendance!) Classes are 50 minutes long to allow time for students to pack up and depart before the next class. Students can start at any time, as our instructors are well- seasoned in adapting the class to different levels. Many tunes that we learn have different levels of difficulty, or different parts to play, so there's always a way for everyone to jump in!

Will my student have any performances?

Yes! We have a stage right inside Tune Up and Jam ATX, where at least once per month students will perform as part of their class. Additionally, we have monthly concerts and seasonal, larger performance opportunities in the community. We believe that the more you play, the better you'll be, and we spend a lot of time making that a priority for our students!

Can I join and watch my kids' class?

Although it's fine to check in on your kid during class- and we want you to know where they are!- for the comfort of all the students in the class we ask parents not to make a habit of sitting in on class. Some exceptions may be made for very young kids or certain classes. We do encourage parental involvement though, and welcome your questions!

What is Included in monthly tuition?

Your tuition includes a weekly “Tune Up” class for your instrument, plus a weekly “Jam Class” live in studio for most classes, unless otherwise specified. Additionally, each student benefits from their personal account on our app/website, Practice Space. Here, students receive their assignment each week, often including video, pdf, audio recordings and more. Students have a direct line to chat to their teacher in Practice Space to submit recordings or ask questions.
